PIN 5765.23 Maple Rd and N. Bailey Ave Intersection Reconfiguration Project (CMAQ)

New Project

The Greater Buffalo-Niagara Regional Transportation Council (GBNRTC), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Erie and Niagara Counties, is proposing to amend the 2023-2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) by adding one (1) new project.

According to a recent Traffic Impact Study, the approaches at the Maple Road and North Bailey Avenue intersection, in the Town of Amherst, are operating at poor levels of service, with North Bailey nearing capacity. Proposed development includes 1,700 new housing units and 580,000 sq ft of retail and office space which will increase traffic, further degrading levels of service. This intersection also has high collision rate.

The preliminary solution is the addition of left turn lanes on all four approaches, on North Bailey and installation of an upgraded traffic signal to accommodate the geometric changes.

Total project cost is $4.47M. Fiscal constraint is maintained as the project was awarded project was awarded a total of $3,576,000 from the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Program (CMAQ). The program uses 80% of Federal funds with a 20% local sponsor match. The required local match for this project is $894,000.
