Internship Program Overview

GBNRTC is continuing its internship program to strengthen its relationship with academic institutions in Western New York and beyond in a way that is beneficial to internship participants and GBNRTC. Interns will work directly with key staff on transportation planning initiatives that improve quality of life in our region, including various on-going efforts of GBNRTC.

 

Summer 2025 Internship Potential Projects

Interns will be assigned to a GIS based project or projects to work on for the Summer.

Examples of potential projects include:

  • Sidewalk inventory database – This is important for the region to understand connectivity for pedestrians in the region

  • Bus stop inventory database – This is important for use in developing needs for bus stop improvements in future projects

  • Highway curve database – Certain highway curves are recognized as being susceptible to crashes. Curve measurements are needed to determine where to focus improvements

 

Intern Requirements

  • In-person availability

    • Summer 2025 – June-Aug 2025, 25-40 hours per week

  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills

  • Interest developing skills and pursuing a career. Pursuing a degree in urban transportation planning is preferred but not required. 

  • Basic skills and the ability to learn more advanced skills with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams is required.

  • The ability to learn software systems applicable to assigned Projects is required and prior experience is a plus.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with a team-oriented mindset

Program Benefits

  • $18/hour for undergrad and $20/hour for graduate students
